Education: Maksim Iavich studied at Ivane Javakhishvili State University in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 2001 to 2005, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He continued at the same university from 2006 to 2009, obtaining a Master’s degree in the same field. From 2010 to 2014, he pursued a Ph.D. at Georgian Technical University in Informatics and Control Systems.
In 2009, he completed a Diplomatic Seminar organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, earning a certificate. In 2014, he successfully graduated from a cryptography course offered by Stanford University. He made a specialization in Cyber Security at the University of Maryland from 2014 to 2015, and from 2016 to 2018, he completed numerous programming and cybersecurity courses from various leading universities, receiving corresponding certificates.

Work experience: Maksim’s professional experience includes serving as a computer science lecturer at Maalot Zeidner Institute from 2009 to 2014 and as a lecturer at Georgian Technical University from 2011 to 2013. He held the position of associate professor at Georgian Technical University from 2014 to 2022 and later served as an invited full professor. Additionally, he worked as a computer teacher at Or Avner School from 2012 to 2014 and was the director of the computer center at LTD “Maxitop” from 2009 to 2015. He led the computer science bachelor program at Georgian Bank University from 2014 to 2017 and has been an invited speaker at international cybersecurity conferences. Currently, he is an IT consultant for international organizations.
Since 2014, he has been a professor at Caucasus University, where he also served as an associate professor from 2014 to 2015. Since 2017, Professor Iavich has been the president of the Scientific Cyber Security Association (SCSA) and has held the position of affiliate professor and head of the cybersecurity direction at Caucasus University since 2018. Since 2022, he has also been the director of the Cyber Security Center at Caucasus University and oversees the dual bachelor program in cybersecurity.
Maksim is the author of numerous scientific papers covering topics such as cybersecurity, cryptography, post-quantum cryptography, quantum cryptography, mathematical models, and simulations. He has received several awards in the field of cybersecurity, including the Best Young Scientist Award from the Shota Rustaveli National Foundation in 2018, recognition from DeepSec in 2022, and the Best Scientist of the Year award from Caucasus University in 2024.
He has participated in 24 scientific projects in various capacities, including research personnel, project director, and principal investigator. His projects include European initiatives such as Capacity Building, Jean Monnet, NATO SPS, STCU, and those funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan and the Shota Rustaveli National Foundation.
Additionally, he is the founding chief editor of the only scientific and practical cybersecurity journal in Georgia. This year, Maksim was selected as a Weiser Professional Development Fellow at the University of Michigan, where he will work as a post-quantum cryptographer for three months starting in January 2025. Under his supervision, eight Ph.D. students have successfully defended their theses. He has published over 140 research papers, many of which appear in A and B category journals.
